Tree Nuts and Peanuts

This is an Album-A-Day project, recorded over 14 hours on Christmas Day, 2004. Since I had the title already, I named all the songs after nuts, and then after other things found in the woods, once I ran out of nuts.
Update: it has been pointed out to me that among the nuts I missed are: pistachios, almonds, pecans, macadamia nuts, pine nuts, chestnuts, and horse chestnuts/buckeyes. This clearly shows that one should not try to list all nuts at 4:00 AM after 14 hours of recording.

Highlights:

  • "Hazelnuts" has some very pretty guitar tones, thanks to direct input.
  • "Rocks" is pretty good. In fact, it was named that because it rocks.
  • "Deer" sounds a little bit like the score to a "quirky" movie.
  • If you like both noise-rock and polka, as I do, then you may enjoy "Bears," a noise-polka.
  • "Ants" is fun.

    Lowlights:

  • Special thanks to Jane Forman for the excellent piano sample on "Bees"; unfortunately, I completely ruined the song with a lousy guitar track.
  • "Cashews" has a couple of interesting noises, but it's way too long.
  • "Dead Leaves" doesn't really go anywhere.
